Write Out Drop-In Session

Drop-in during this one hour session to brainstorm logistics, classroom adaptations, and/or community partnerships for Write Out 2026.

Hawaiian Kilo: Writing Rooted in Place

Join us for an interactive exploration of Hawaiian Kilo, a traditional practice of deep, intentional observation. In this session, we’ll tune into the specific rhythms of the land right outside your own door. After exploring the foundations of Kilo practice, you’ll briefly step away from your computer to observe and capture the sensory details of your unique surroundings. We’ll return to our digital circle to share the words and phrases sparked by our observations and discuss how this practice of writing rooted in place can be adapted to any content area or setting. We will conclude with a resource share and Q&A to support your own practice. We invite you to pause, Kilo, and connect with the world where you stand.
