“Whose Call?” Creating School Cell Phone Policies that Center Student Well-Being, Engagement & Belonging

For more than a decade, cell phone use and restriction in schools has been a locus of debate in hallways, school administration offices, and parent organizations. Adults and youth alike struggle with how cell phones may shape the school experience and impact connections with the people around them. Over the 2025-26 school year, Challenge Success partnered with three schools to design and pilot policies built with students rather than for them. Join us to hear directly from members of the teams at Legacy Magnet Academy, La Cañada High School, and Sandia Prep about what they tried, what surprised them, and what they would do differently. We'll also share our new toolkit, including sample policies, pilot ideas, and a research brief on what the evidence does and doesn't show.
